Dr. Nathan F Osborn is a board-certified psychiatrist and the owner of Cascade Child and Family Center. Prior to entering medical school, Dr. Osborn was a high school English teacher, water polo and swimming coach in Palo Alto, California.
His experience as a teacher and coach offers him a unique lens in assessing and supporting children and teens.
Dr. Osborn completed medical school at the University of California, Davis. He completed his residency in general psychiatry at the University of Arizona in Tucson and a Fellowship in Adolescent & Child Psychiatry, Children’s National Health System Medical Center in Washington DC.
Dr. Osborn believes in compassionate, individualized care and strives to create a warm, welcoming environment in his practice. He works with individuals and families across the lifespan and works to form trusting, meaningful connections with his clients. Dr. Osborn treats a wide variety of mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, trauma related challenges, obsessive compulsive disorder, and bipolar disorder. He enjoys supporting his clients not only in finding medication that fits right for them, but also in finding the right care team and lifestyle to bring them satisfaction in their day-to-day life.
Outside of work, Dr. Osborn enjoys spending time with his wife and 3 children in nature, including kayaking, paddle boarding, mountain biking, hiking, and camping.
Dr. E Merritt Schader is a board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist who joined Cascade Child and Family Center in 2017.Dr. Schader was born in Klamath Falls and raised on her family’s alfalfa farm just south of the Oregon border. After majoring in music and piano performance at Princeton University she studied piano for two years in Vienna, Austria, followed by medical school at Stanford University, psychiatry residency at the San Mateo County Psychiatry Program, and a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Stanford University. Following training she worked in community psychiatry and group practice settings in Gilroy, CA and Portland, OR prior to joining CCFC.
Dr. Schader’s practice focuses
largely on children, teens, and young adults. Her approach centers curiosity, compassion, and persistence in working with her patients and their families. Dr. Schader treats a wide variety of mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, trauma related challenges, obsessive compulsive disorder, and bipolar disorder. She enjoys collaborating with her patients on finding the combination of strategies that will help them find satisfaction in their lives, including medication, therapy, and other lifestyle factors.
When not at work, Dr. Schader enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons, reading, and traveling.
Kirsten Romney, LCSW is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has been in practice since 2017. She holds a Bachelor’s in Psychology and Gender Studies from the University of New Mexico and a Master of Social Work from Portland State University. Prior to pursuing her graduate education, Kirsten found her love for the field in her work as a crisis advocate for survivors of sexual violence. She continued to pursue this passion during and after her undergraduate studies at two treatment programs that specialized in supporting youth experiencing trauma, learning disabilities, and adoption and foster care related attachment issues. She started her post-graduate work as a therapist, and later clinical director, at a program that specialized in working with girls and nonbinary youth experiencing issues related to depression, anxiety, trauma, neurodivergence, and challenges in their family system.
Kirsten enjoys working with a variety of people, but her practice focuses on children over the age of 12, teens, and adults. Her particular areas of interest are supporting LGBTQ+ folks, complex trauma, and neurodivergence (ADHD and level 1 autism). She has additional training in Internal Family Systems, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing,
Collaborative Problem Solving, and is accredited as an adoption competent therapist through the Center for Adoption Support and Education. Kirsten is also an approved clinical supervisor in the state of Oregon and is honored to have the privilege of overseeing the therapy program at CCFC. Kirsten truly believes that people want to do well, and seeks first to understand and know her clients. She is accepting, curious, humorous, and direct in her approach. While therapeutic work is never easy, Kirsten strives to ensure the relationship created in therapy feels safe, collaborative, open, and enjoyable.
Kirsten spends her free time enjoying the many outdoor activities Bend has to offer with her partner, including ice hockey, skiing, and cycling. When indoors, she spends her time honing the art of breadmaking and spoiling her beloved housecat, Milo.
Brianna Young, MA, LPCA is a clinical mental health counselor who works primarily with young children ages 3–13. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, with a minor in Mental Health and a certificate in Work Psychology, from the University of Northern Iowa, and her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from George Fox University. Brianna completed her clinical internship working with children, where she focused on developmentally appropriate, play-based interventions and built a strong foundation in supporting children and their families.
Brianna has experience helping children navigate anxiety, depression, ADHD, autism, trauma, life transitions, and family changes such as parental divorce. She approaches therapy through a developmentally responsive and relationship-centered lens, integrating Child-Centered, Gestalt, and Synergetic Play Therapy with attachment-based and trauma-informed care. She is currently working toward her Registered Play Therapist (RPT) credential and is committed to ongoing learning to best support the children and families she serves.
Brianna believes that children communicate, process, and heal through play. She strives to create a warm, attuned, and consistent therapeutic environment where children feel safe, understood, and empowered to express themselves. She also values collaboration with caregivers and works to support parents in understanding their child’s emotional world and strengthening connection within the family system.
Outside of her work, Brianna enjoys spending time outdoors hiking, kayaking, and soaking up the sunshine. She values time in nature as a way to recharge and finds joy in slow, quiet moments at home with her two cats.
Kimberly Rafilson, MA, LPCA, is a Clinical Mental Health Counselor who works with children, adolescents, adults, and families. Her path into counseling reflects a midlife professional pivot, bringing depth of life experience, emotional maturity, and a grounded, steady presence. She recently completed her graduate studies at Oregon State University and has spent the past year with Deschutes County Behavioral Health, supporting clients as they navigate complex trauma, anxiety, emotional dysregulation, and relational challenges.
Kimberly is known for creating a calm, attuned space where clients feel safe, understood, and supported. Her approach is relational, trauma-informed, and grounded in attachment and family systems perspectives. She draws from EMDR, DBT, CBT, IFS, and mindfulness-based approaches to support clients in processing trauma and adverse life experiences, understanding patterns, building emotional awareness, strengthening their identity, and developing practical tools for regulation and coping. Kimberly strives for her work to be both clinically sound and deeply human, meeting clients with warmth, curiosity, and respect for their lived experiences.
In her work with children, Kimberly uses developmentally responsive, creative, and relational approaches to help young clients express emotions, build coping skills, and feel more secure in themselves and their relationships. She incorporates play and art-based approaches, drawing on her Montessori classroom experience to create a structured yet flexible space where children can explore and grow at their own pace.
A central part of Kimberly’s work with children and adolescents is supporting parents and caregivers. She believes that empowering parents with an understanding of their child’s nervous system, attachment needs, and emotional world enables them to respond more effectively, reducing conflict and fostering lasting change. Her approach emphasizes validation, co-regulation, setting clear limits, and supportive communication. She particularly enjoys assisting parents navigating co-parenting challenges, such as separation and divorce, to help families reduce conflict, improve communication, and develop more supportive dynamics for their children.
She brings a strong background in leadership and systems work from her previous career as a business owner and consultant, offering a nuanced understanding of complex individual and family dynamics.
Outside of her work, Kimberly enjoys spending time outdoors, camping, hiking, and biking …and values time with her partner and adult children, especially cooking, traveling, and sharing meaningful experiences together.
Anne Baez, MA, MFTA works with teens, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biocultural Anthropology from Oregon State University and her Master’s Degree in Marriage, Couple and Family Counseling from George Fox University. She is passionate about helping clients remove barriers that keep them feeling stuck while supporting them in building healthier relationships with themselves and others.
Anne has experience helping clients navigate trauma, anxiety, depression, life transitions, grief, separation, co-parenting, self-esteem challenges, emotional overwhelm, and relationship difficulties. She also supports couples and families experiencing communication challenges, conflict, emotional disconnection, and unhealthy relational patterns. Her goal is to help clients develop a greater understanding, emotional connection, and lasting change.
Anne has additional experience as a former birth doula and supports individuals, couples, and families navigating pregnancy, pregnancy loss, birth, postpartum adjustment, and early parenthood. She brings a compassionate and steady presence to these deeply vulnerable life transitions. As a biracial woman of color, Anne understands the unique experiences that can come with identity, belonging, and navigating systems or relationships that may feel difficult or invalidating. She brings both personal insight and professional training into her work, creating a supportive space where clients can feel seen, heard, and understood.
Anne’s clinical approach is grounded in Person-Centered Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Gottman Method Couples Therapy, and Attachment Theory. She also utilizes a systemic lens in her work and is committed to supporting the whole family system, not just the individual. Together, these approaches help clients understand relational patterns, emotional wounds, and personal narratives, while building healthier ways of connecting and communicating.
Anne believes healing happens through authentic connection, self-awareness, and support through life’s challenges. Outside of her clinical work, she enjoys hiking, trail running, reading, traveling, spending time with friends and family, and life with her husband, dog, and two cats.
Kristy Graham, LPC is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Oregon who has been practicing since 2021. She has a BS in Psychology with a minor in Children and Family Studies, an MS in Counselor Education. Kristy is Trauma Informed Certified (TIC), and a Clinical Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) as well.

Through active listening, validation, collaboration, advocacy, and providing resources for clients, Kristy aims to support clients in reaching collaborative treatment plan goals and deeper self-understanding. Kristy specializes in working with children, adolescents, and teens, 0-14 years of age. She is experienced in treating ADHD, anxiety, depression, and has an extensive background working with children with disabilities. Kristy offers Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Play Therapy Interventions, Art Therapy Interventions, Child Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), and other therapeutic modalities.
Outside of work, Kris enjoys being outdoors, camping, stand-up paddle boarding, traveling, and painting when she is not spending time with her four adult children.
Kara Skattum, LMFT is a licensed marriage and family therapist in Oregon who has been in practice since 2023. Kara obtained her BS in human development and family studies, double concentrating on prevention and intervention sciences as well as leadership and entrepreneurship. Throughout her schooling, Kara worked in many settings, including schools, intensive outpatient programs for adolescents and young adults, and private practice.
Kara’s therapeutic foundation is rooted in a systems lens, recognizing that when working with children, she is inherently working with the entire family system. She approaches therapy in a goal-oriented fashion while recognizing that the path to achieving those goals will look different for every individual and family. She draws from a range of therapeutic modalities including Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Collaborative & Proactive Solutions (CPS), and Motivational Interviewing. She believes each person is unique and works to tailor her approach to meet the needs of each client.
Kara believes that every child is inherently good and that people of all ages are capable of growth when provided with the appropriate support, intervention, and team. She strives to create a collaborative, compassionate space where change and healing are possible. Particular areas of interest for Kara include obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), Anxiety disorders, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Family systems challenges, and Dual Diagnosis.
Outside of work, Kara loves spending time outdoors. She is an avid runner—both trail and road—and enjoys mountain biking, snowboarding, and paddle boarding. She cherishes time spent in nature with her two dogs and her partner. When not outside, she enjoys cooking, reading, exploring film photography, and playing games with friends.
